On March 15 1974, renowned rugby player Percival Colin Montgomery was born in Windhoek, Namibia.

The retired Springbok and provincial rugby player, became the first Springbok to score more than 800 test points.  At one point, he was the most-capped Springbok player in the country. He was also the first player to earn a hundred caps.

Montgomery’s 893 test points give him well over twice as many points as the player in second place on the all-time Springboks points list, Naas Botha.

He announced his retirement from international test rugby in 2008 and has been working as a kicking coach for the Springboks since 2009.

Happy Birthday Percy!
