What a way to save water

WHAT A WASTE: Betty Kriel (59) watching clean water running wastefully from a leaking water meter in Rover Street.

GAUTENG Province is running out of water and all residents are warned and urged by municipalities to use water sparingly and not to waste a drop.

Yet, surprisingly, residents wonder why the very same metro council, which is instructing everybody to save water, allows clean and precious water to run wastefully down the streets.

The Zaal family in Rover Street has a problem with a leaking water meter which has been wasting water for three months with EMM not resolving the problem although the family has reported it.

“Three months ago we reported the leak and were given a reference number 208 8401. Twice EMM workers arrived here but only to take photographs and then leave. The last group that came just dug a hole around the meter and left. It’s been weeks now and the clean water is still being wasted,” said Venessa Zaal.

Venessa further alleged that she had called the offices in Swartkoppies Road on numerous occasions to have the problem resolved but in vain. “I spoke to a man and even sent him emails [his name is known to the RECORD] but still nothing. In the meantime, precious clean water is wasted. I don’t know what to do,” Venessa said.

Comment has been asked from the metro but none had been received at the time of going to print.
