The Bag Lady

What a privilege it is to be going into 2017, with hopes and dreams for the year ahead and hoping beyond doubt through working at Caxton South and the Comaro CHRONICLE, I can make some positive changes within the community – some with assistance from key role players and residents.

Writing The Bag Lady column every week takes me away from the more serious side of my job and gives me time to indulge in a little ‘shopping’, seeking the latest products and reporting on new businesses and restaurants opening. I particularly enjoy the feedback I get from readers who look forward to my column each week and I know from chatting to some of you, you enjoy the less serious side of the newspaper – although it’s necessary to also focus on the more weighty issues, keeping our community informed. So, here’s to us all as we write our own books for 2017; let’s make it a great read!

Holidaying in Cape Town

What a wonderful place Cape Town is and we were fortunate to stay with special friends in Table View, Big Bay. A dear friend from England and her family came over to celebrate her 60th birthday. We’ve been friends for nearly half a century and we all stayed together with her son, in his beautiful home, five minutes from the beach. The weather was amazing and I’m very happy I escaped the rain and dreary days in Joburg!

Apart from long walks on the beach; visiting the V&A Waterfront; high tea at The Twelve Apostles Hotel; enjoying great restaurants; drinking copious amounts of wine and fun times, we also went to The Spice Route Wine Farm in Paarl, where the temperature reached 38c. I loved it.

I’ve definitely come to realise I’m in my ‘happy place’ beside the sea. It could be because I was brought up in England on the North West coast and the cries of seagulls and crashing waves on the beach, was part of my growing up. So who knows, one day I may become a beach bum!

For now though, it’s back to business and of course shopping.
