Need2Read helps Suidheuwels Primary with books

SHELDON Spear, a Grade Seven learner at Curro Waterstone College, donated books to Suidheuwels Primary School’s library on Saturday, February 25.

He started Need2Read in August 2014 as he wanted to give books to needy schools. When he read the article in the Southern COURIER two weeks ago, he knew he could help.

FINALLY: Books to fill some space on the empty shelves.

Sheldon was shocked to hear that the library has stood empty for over 30 years.

“I was so happy to see the excitement on the children’s faces when we brought the books. We will continue to deliver books to Suidheuwels Primary School until the shelves are full!” he said.

HELPING HAND: Helping load the books into the bakkie.

There were excited learners at the school on the day and they started sorting the books on the desks in the library.

THANK YOU: This is a great gesture by Need2Read.

Kumari Jackson, a teacher at the school and coordinator of the project, said they are so grateful that Need2Read donated the books to their library.

BOOKS: Suidheuwels Primary School learners are excited about the new books. Sheldon Spear is on the left with the blue book.

“The books are in good condition and we are sorting them out. Hopefully they will fill half of the library. We are still waiting for others who promised to bring books. Thank you to all who heeded the call,” she said.

WORK IN PROGRESS: Kumari Jackson tells Sheldon Spear that her team is determined to make the library functional again.

Need2Read’s motto is, “Sharing the love of reading”. They collect good-quality children’s reading and reference books. Follow the Need2Read Facebook page and contact Sheldon if you have books to donate.

GREAT PARTNERSHIP: Kumari Jackson and Sheldon Spear.

The school is situated at 45 Quantock Road, South Hills, and they can be contacted on 011 613 3977.

A RELIEF: Kumari Jackson is excited that their library will soon be full of books.
