Ian Marcus gets the wheelchair he needs

FINALLY MOBILE: AMCARE representatives delivered a wheelchair to Ian Marcus (12). Present on the day were Ruth Ntuli (AMCARE social worker), Magriet van Wyk (grandmother), Nontembeko Magadla (AMCARE representative), Ian Marcus and Wilma Williams (AMCARE care-giver) with Ian's mother, Ida Marcus at the back.

“OH Lord, how great Thou art. Thank you Lord for the gift to my grandson,” exclaimed Ian Marcus’s grandmother, Magriet van Wyk when representatives of AMCARE arrived at their house to deliver a wheelchair.

The RECORD published a plea from the Van Wyk family for a wheelchair in last week’s edition and AMCARE responded to the family’s need and delivered a wheelchair on Thursday, May 18.

Not only the Van Wyk family was excited about the delivery. Even the neighbours came over, clapping their hands, to congratulate Ian on his gift.

Family friend Richard Torres said: “This boy’s father should be named Father of the Year. He is a father among fathers. He carries his son to any place they have to go, even to the hospital in Vosloorus or the clinic without saying he is tired and doing it with a smile. To him, Ian is everything but a burden.”

Nothing could wipe off the smiles from young Ian’s face and that of his mother Ida Marcus, as they gazed at the grandmother thanking the AMCARE ladies. “My late husband was an AMCARE care-giver and I am thankful that AMCARE has blessed his grandson with a wheelchair. I thank God,” Magriet said.

“It is such an amazing feeling to see our community opening up their hearts to those in need. We have received a number of calls from people who wanted to help and for that we are grateful. We truly live and work in a community with heart,” said Carina van der Walt, editor of the RECORD.
