Fun at the bowling greens aids Hospice

BOWLING FOR HOSPICE: The ladies involved in the Alberton Bowling Club’s Ladies ‘Trips’ tournament, culminating in a grand final on 24 June.

THE grand finale of the Alberton Bowling Club’s Ladies ‘Trips’ tournament is to be held on Saturday June 24 at the Alberton Bowling Club in 2nd Avenue, Florentia.

To celebrate the culmination of five Saturdays’ competitive bowls leading up to the final, the organisers have decided to incorporate some good ole’ family fun on the day.

Boerie rolls, pancakes and various other eats and drinks will be on sale as well as live music provided by various DJs.

Behind this tournament and the Family Fun Day on June 24, lies a spirit of generosity as the Alberton Bowling Club has decided to adopt Stepping Stone Hospice as their charity of choice. Their ladies team are dedicating the Ladies “Trips” tournament to raising funds for Stepping Stone Hospice and have committed to make this an annual tournament in aid of Alberton’s only hospice.

“Several members from our club have experienced the love and support of Stepping Stone Hospice first-hand, having had family members and loved ones in their care,” says bowler Michelle Varner whose own husband Allan passed away at Stepping Stone’s In-Patient Unit in December 2015.

“A portion of the entry fees we collected per team, as well as proceeds from raffles and a market on June 24, will all go towards Stepping Stone Hospice. Everyone is invited to come along and support this worthy cause and, of course, cheer on all the bowlers,” she adds.
