Elvis appreciation group goes to America to pay tribute to the king

FOR ELVIS: Blue Suede Heaven Elvis Club sharing their love of the king.

THERE is a soft buzz of anticipation in the air. The noise level escalates, people start moving around, glasses are enthusiastically replenished and a resounding ‘Cheers!’ fills the room.

A group of excited travellers from Gauteng’s Blue Suede Heaven Elvis Presley Appreciation Group came together at Il Forno Mediterranean Restaurant in Alberton to meet fellow travellers and to discuss last minute arrangements before embarking on their amazing three week American Music Tour.

Their first stop will be New Orleans, home of Jazz, Louis Armstrong and the world famous Bourbon Street. Then it is all speed ahead to Memphis, the city of the Blues where Beale Street rocks 24/7, and it is home to BB King and of course Elvis and his Graceland.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ passing on August 16, 1977. It is a big year for Elvis fans around the world, with about 85 000 visitors expected to descend on Memphis for the official Elvis Week 2017.

The group then follows the road signs to Nashville, home of Country Music and to Dollywood Theme Park, enjoying several interesting stops between destinations – riverboat ride, swamp tour, visit to a southern Plantation, show at the Grand Ole Opry, the Jack Daniels Distillery, ride on a steam train, a good ol’ knees-up and dance at the Dixie Stampede and so much more, ending their fabulous adventure in New York City.

Planning this trip has been a work in progress for over two years. As months have been crossed off the calendar, the excitement within the group has grown and now finally, take-off is just days away!

Thank you to Il Forno for always providing the friendliest staff and service. We can’t wait and we even have a flag we will be placing on the grave from Elvis Fans of South Africa.

And last but not least a message from Blue Suede Heaven. “Y’all must live your ‘dream come true’, enjoy days filled with fun and laughter, put on your ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, stay safe and happy and ‘All Shook Up’! Most of all have a truly awesome time!”
