EMM responds to refuse removal complaint

For the past six weeks, there have been problems with refuse removal in Albertsdal. We got excuses from the EMM like strikes, staff problems or no diesel fuel.

Our day for refuse removal is Monday, but it has not been collected for the past six weeks. This week again – still not removed.

The EMM responded:

“Ekurhuleni Metro’s Alberton Waste Management Services depot hereby acknowledges that there have recently been challenges in adherence to the refuse removal programme, in respect to refuse collection not in Albertsdal only, but also surrounding areas.

“The depot has, however, put up measures in order to ensure that refuse is collected on the day it needs to be collected. The filling of vacant positions will complement the current staff shortage, as well as the turnaround in the repairs of vehicle breakdowns. This will assist in the increase of depot fleet, so that the depot can be able deliver the services effectively to Alberton residents.

“The depot also uses the services of development contractors in order to catch up with backlog experienced.”
