Meyersdal dump being abused

MEYERSDAL DUMP A MESS

We would like to bring to your attention the dire situation at the Meyersdal Dump in Seef le Roux Street.

For years we have been subjected to the smell and the gunge that runs down the street. Evidence of this is the state of the gates, which have rusted beyond repair. We had a meeting with the health inspector some years ago and the situation seemed to be resolved.

The situation has, however, deteriorated once again.

The skip seems to contain mostly paper and cardboard but all the slop from the restaurants and Spar is being dumped behind the enclosed area. This attracts vermin. The Spar staff exit through this area to have their lunch on the pavement. Not very hygienic. It was decided when we met years ago that the restaurants would be responsible for their own ‘slop removal’.

We are also experiencing sewage problems because all the fat discarded by the restaurant is being put down the drains – so sanitation says. They have to come out regularly to clear the sewers and that is probably the reason the sewers down Hennie Alberts are always overflowing. The health department says they fine the restaurants but, clearly, this is not discouraging this illegal practice.

Could you please address this unacceptable problem as soon as possible.
