Water wasted due to damaged pipe

WATER WASTED: Water running down the street after a pipe was damaged after digging.

Yet another water pipe has been damaged whilst digging trenches for installation of optic fiber cables.

One of the housing complexes in Meyersdal has been affected four times, often leading to water flowing down the street like a river.

The last time, this went on for over four hours and must almost have drained the reservoir.

Surely, experienced people must be employed to excavate in this highly built-up area. The workers are told to dig and they relentlessly dig, spending their time moving rocks and sand from one place to another without there seeming to be any logic behind it.

Although we have all the inconvenience of the digging for optic fiber we have yet to be consulted as to who will be affected and how.

RECORD has contacted the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality for comment, as well as the company for which the cables are being installed and we have yet to receive comment.
