Beras Motor Spares’ reply

BERAS MOTOR SPARES COMMENT.

With regards to your article in the Alberton Record “Illegal Mechanics”, dated January 31, and noted that there was no reply from Beras Motor Spares.

Herewith please do find our response to the article:

We do agree with the steps taken by the authorities as this has been an ongoing issue, which was discussed personally and correspondence with the traffic chief Mr J Dorfling. With regards to the parking, we do not have control over where the customers park as there are parking bays allocated by the council, which at the moment, the paint has faded and needs repainting.

The repairs done on the street and illegal parking is not our responsibility. Remember, we do at times ask customers not to park illegally but to no avail especially at the robots.

To have the area patrolled on a daily basis and fines to be issued is accepted but to have between 10 and 15 wardens at one go is not acceptable, we do need these extra wardens to do point duties at various areas in the Ekurhuleni area. Not to sit at the back of Second Avenue by the school in a group and have a nice chat for hours and seeing the illegal mechanics plying their trade in front of the wardens.

The traffic department should be more firm with the mechanics. They have now moved to other roads as per your report.

We have spoken with the illegal mechanics multiple times but to no avail and have been threatened by them.

The RECORD has contacted the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department as well as the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality for comment, but we have had no feedback from them in this regard.
