A Square Forklift is celebrating their 20th birthday this year.
A Square Forklift was founded in 1998 when owner Craig Bradford saw the need for a forklift rental service in the area of Alberton and the South. Craig was at the time working with his father Glenn Bradford for B Square projects, a construction company, when they saw the opportunity for diversification into the forklift rental business. B Square was founded in 1980 but is no longer operating. Glenn named the company B Square after him and his son, squared because there were two Bradfords.
The new forklift company was named A Square Forklift, tying in with the name of the parent company.
“We changed the name to A Square Forklift at the time simply to move forward in the Yellow pages and be easier to find,” said Craig.
The company started with a small floor space and only two staff members. The company, however, saw massive growth over the 20 years, now employing 58 staff members at their main branch. Two additional branches were opened, one in Cape Town and one in Durban.
“Alberton is very important to us because it is our community and the place we started,” said Craig. “Of the staff we employ 90 per cent are from Alberton and the surrounds.”
Recuperating business back into the Alberton area is something A Square Forklift prides them on.
“By doing our business in Alberton we not only support our employees who live here but also provide a superior service to the other companies in the area.”
Service delivery is something A Square Forklift takes very seriously.
“We push everything to ensure that the service we provide to our clients is the best around, to make sure they receive the very best.”
To this end, A Square Forklift is heavily invested in the procurement and development of electric forklifts, working closely with Ninchiyu, a company that makes exclusively electric forklifts.
A Square Forklift is heavily involved in sponsorship of various sporting and club activities in Alberton. They have been the main sponsor of the Alberton Rugby Club for five years, something they are very proud of. Other sponsorships are Bul Pae Taekwon-Do, that A Square Forklift has provided the prize giving trophies for, school sponsorships such as sponsoring Alberton High’s Golf Day and sponsoring a jump at horse jumping. A Square Forklift was one of the main sponsors at Alberton Day.
“We as a company want to do our bit to benefit Alberton, for it is as much our home as it is for the people that live there,” Craig said.
A Square Forklift will be celebrating their birthday on May 5 at Gold Reef City.
“We have walked a long road with Alberton,” said Craig. “Moving forward, we will continue with our work here and help ensure more growth.”
