The Bag Lady

Talk about the year going quickly, June never even hung around! July is here and yes, we are more than half way through the year.

Last weekend we enjoyed a festive evening with friends, celebrating Christmas in June! Our hosts had decorated the table with a stunning centrepiece and Christmas crackers were placed at each table setting. We enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner, complete with turkey, gammon, tiny sausages, savoury stuffing and a selection of veggies and then we finished off with Christmas pudding and mince pies. A wonderful evening in every way!

Celebrating Christmas mid-year is the perfect way to get together with friends and it’s something a bit different and fun. Early in the year when Christmas goodies go on sale, buy Christmas crackers and serviettes, and purchase a turkey which you can freeze. The other foods are usually all available now. In my opinion there’s always an excuse for a dinner party. If you like the idea, enjoy a Christmas in July dinner with good friends and let me know how it goes.

FESTIVE OCCASION: Christmas in June with wonderful friends.

My favourite winter treats

A bowl of homemade chicken soup with hot buttered toast (has to be real butter).

A bubble bath. Light a scented candle and pour yourself a glass of wine.

Hot chocolate (using hot milk with real chocolate chunks melted into it).

An afternoon with a good book. Don’t forget the fluffy throw.

Find a sheltered corner in the garden on a sunny afternoon to sit and chat with a great friend. Serve tea and cakes or drinks and snacks.

We all deserve some special time and none of these treats will break the bank. So go on, treat yourself!

Bouquet of the Week

To the staff of Total Garage (La Boutique) opposite the Glen Shopping Centre, your service is great. As soon as I pulled up onto the forecourt I was served by MChiko, who was very pleasant and another two staff members began to wash my car windows. Straight away I said “No, please don’t wash my windows, I haven’t any change at all to give you.” With big smiles they said not to worry and carried on doing a sterling job of the front and back windows. Thank you, your service was super.

Phone me on 011 724 4656 or email: juliem@caxton.co.za and share your shopping news.

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
