Ward 38 march for visible policing coming in September

WARD 38, which covers Brackenhurst (South of Swartkoppies) and Brackendowns, is inviting the community of the affected wards and the surrounding areas to join in on a march calling for visible policing in the area.

The march is scheduled to take place on September 1, starting at the Brackenhurst Library and ending at the Brackendowns Police Station.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni has noted with serious concern that crime in the area has reached unacceptable levels and they believe that the main reason is owing to the lack of policing in the area. DA ward councillors further feel the matter cannot be ignored as it has also been raised by residents on numerous occasions.

This is not a march against the police. It is a march in support of the police who do what they can with the limited resources available to them. The Ward 38 committee would like to invite the community to take a stand in support of making crime-fighting resources available.

While we note that the South African Police Service (SAPS) falls under the jurisdiction of provincial government, we believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to care about community safety.

More details regarding the march will be made available in the coming weeks as preparations for the march continue.

For more information on how you can assist, feel free to contact Gavin Schutte (member of the ward committee and serving on the community safety sector) on 082 877 4074.
