BRACKENDOWNS CPF, Brackendowns SAPS, AfriForum, local security companies and community members joined forces on October 6 and 7 to embark on a 25-hour crackdown on crime in the Alberton area.
The patrol began at 7am, and all came together at Brackendowns police station before having breakfast together.
Linda Goodenough, community development manager for Fidelity ADT, said there is no doubt that community engagement is one of the primary ways of reducing crime. “We need to have ‘more bobbies on the beat’. High visible patrolling is a clear deterrent to crime. This patrol is a sign that we are taking the problems experienced by the local community seriously,” she said.
The joint initiative patrolled all the crime hotspots at “hot times” as well as random public spaces. Areas that they patrolled were Brackendowns, Brackenhurst, Meyersdal, Mayberry Park, Albertsdal, Alrode and Thinasonki.
Brackendowns CPF thanked everyone who was a part of the patrol and organising it. They also thanked community members for their donations and everyone else who opened their homes to patrollers throughout the day.
