Makhura could replace Mokonyane as premier

JOHANNESBURG – The announcement of the African National Congress’ (ANC) Premier Candidate for Gauteng has been under much debate since the elections on May 7, and it is David Makhura who gets the nod, despite reports suggesting Ntombi Mekgwe would replace Nomvula Mokonyane.

After a controversy regarding Mekgwe’s name was based on the fact that it did not appear on the list of three candidates up for the Gauteng premier position.

A major challenge awaiting the next premier of Gauteng will be youth unemployment, while the Aerotropolis project will be seen as an opportunity to grow the economy in the province.

The ANC is expected to officially announce the names of the eight premier candidates later this afternoon.
