Government to help the Sunward Park ‘quints’ family in East Rand

Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza said the department will send social workers to the Buthelezi family who lives in Sunward Park to offer them emotional support after the birth of their five babies, Boksburg Advertiser reports.

A 32-year-old Sunward Park mother gave birth to the quintuplets, one boy and four girls, at Clinix Botshelong–Empilweni Private Hospital in Vosloorus on September 6.

“We are so happy for you and we wish you all the best in raising Gauteng’s pride and joy. These children, the four girls and a boy, have placed Ekurhuleni, and indeed Gauteng, in the world map,”said Mayathula-Khoza.

“They join a tiny elite club of South Africa’s quintuplets. Ekurhuleni is home to three sets and no other province has attained that feat. So, Siyanda, Sibahle, Simesihle, Silindile and Sindisiwe, are our historic children and we are proud that they call Gauteng home.”

Mayathula-Khoza gave a word of advice to the parents that the road ahead will not a bed of roses.

“When couples first find out they are expecting twins or Higher Order Multiples like you, the initial feelings can be overwhelming. There will be concerns flooding the mind about how you will manage – money worries, and general anxiety over housing and space.”

“Without promising to solve all your problems, the Gauteng government joins the growing list of well-wishers who commit to stand by the family.

“We have already assigned social workers who will work with the family to assess their psycho-social needs, and will work with them to assist them in every way possible.”

“This we do because we know that it can help to know that you are not alone and that there is a shoulder you can cry on as you experience the roller coaster of emotions that comes with Higher Order Multiples,” Mayathula-Khoza said.
